01The brief

The good conversations were happening off-mic.

Mushroom media splits two ways: research too dense to reach anybody, and content too loose to be true. Neither format lets a working farmer and a clinical researcher sit in the same room and finish a thought.

I had been having those conversations for years anyway — at conferences, on farm floors, after the panel emptied out. They were the best part of the day and nobody was recording them.

02The build

Built for the conversation, not the clip.

01

The guest list

Doctors, scientists, farmers, and people whose lives fungi changed. Some of them bring the research and some bring the story. The best episodes bring both

02

The format

Long-form and unhurried. Nothing worth saying about fungi fits in fifteen minutes, and the part people quote is usually forty minutes in.

03

The room

Set up for conversation rather than performance. No stage, no audience, and no incentive for anybody in the chair to overclaim.

04

The standard

Claims get pushed on. If a guest states something the evidence does not carry, we deal with it in the room instead of in the comments.

05

Where it goes

Audio wherever people listen, full video on YouTube, and the sharp ten minutes cut for Instagram and LinkedIn.

05What it taught me

The story is the part people keep.

I came in assuming the research would carry the episodes. It does not. The papers give a claim its spine, but what changes what somebody does on Monday is hearing a person describe the moment it worked on them.

Rigour without a story does not travel. A story without rigour should not.
